Callie Morhart, Kayla Lethbridge, Jessie Rood and Arianne Welder were at 121 Steakhouse in Assiniboia to raise money for a local cancer patient and his family on a frozen Thursday evening on January 9. Representatives from the Assiniboia Composite High School Seniors Girls Basketball Team supported Derek Rasmussen for their 11th Annual Pink Game by selling pink shirts at the restaurant’s front door.

“The first game was in 2009. Assiniboia has raised about $60 000 over the years,” Al Wandler, the team’s head coach said. According to Wandler, pink games across the province have raised close to $250 000 for those affected by cancer’s onslaught. “The first game was in Assiniboia. We bought uniforms for another team under the condition that they pay it forward and buy another set for another team and so on. Twenty-five teams have done a pink game at one time or another since then.”

This year, the High School Seniors Girls Basketball Team at ACHS raised $1064 in the struggle against cancer and to aid Derek Rasmussen and his family.
