The Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association held their 72nd AGM online on June 25.

The association wrapped up the activities for the 2019- 2020 school year at the meeting.

The association also recognized individuals for their dedication to student-athletes in Saskatchewan.

Al Wandler of the Assiniboia Composite High School was one of the school athletic professionals in the province to be honoured with a service award.

The SHSAA also paid tributes to their retiring executive members and elected new members to the executive council.

During 2019, over 30,000 students participated in interschool activities at the senior high school level, despite basketball and badminton only having partial seasons.

Track and field didn’t have a season at all in 2020 because of COVID-19 restrictions.

The SHSAA recognized individual and team provincial champions in seven of the 10 activities offered to the student-athletes of the 350+ high schools across the province comprising the body of the SHSAA.

The SHSAA Merit Award, the highest honour the association has bestowed on any of its members, was presented to Myles Loeffler of Martensville and Barry Croshaw of Watrous.

Retiring members of the provincial executive for the SHSAA included Val Gordon, past president of Eastend and Kelly Adams, the Regina representative from Campbell Collegiate.

The newly elected, acclaimed, or appointed member to the Provincial Executive Council for a two-year term was Sandra Surkan, the Regina representative from Balfour Collegiate.
