Hodgeville routed Coronach 6-3, completing the series on Friday, February 21. On the same night, the Senior Rebels downed the Hornets 5-2 in the Assiniboia Civic Centre Arena to clinch their spot in the Notekeu League’s finals for the 2019-20 season.
Friday night was the end of the road for the Gravelbourg Hornets and the Coronach Merchants, when they were defeated in game five of the semi-final playoffs.
The Hall brothers, Bryce and Kyle, each notched a tally for the Senior Rebels in the first two minutes of Friday night’s game, staking the Rebels with a 2-0 lead, only to have Gravelbourg come back and tie the game before the period was over.
Mitch Holick and Kyle Hall added second period markers to allow the home town’s squad to carry a 4-2 lead into the third. With solid goaltending from Bushell and a powerplay goal from Zach Evans, the Hornet's ship was sunk, as the Rebels finished off the match, scoring 5-2. Kyle Hall had two goals and added two assists on the night, allowing Assiniboia to take the lead, scoring with 16 points.
League awards were also handed out on Friday night. The Bushell-Giraudier goalie combination won the award for lowest goals allowed during the regular season. Bushy was selected by his league peers as the Most Outstanding Goaltender for 2019-2020. Braydon Delorme was voted as the League's MVP by his fellow players. His second place in finishing the league’s scoring race and Delorme’s strong team play throughout the season also helped him to win this award. Coach Aaron Hesjedahl of the Rebels was selected as the Coach of the Year in the Notekeu League.
The league’s finals are slated to begin next weekend, but dates are still being determined. Watch for posters and advertising online.
