Although group assemblies were still under restrictions because of public health orders, Assiniboia’s golf course planned to reopen on May 15.
Golfers were advised to call the club at 306-642-5442 to pick up a regional park sticker available at the course.
The provincial government intended to reopen Saskatchewan’s golf courses on May 15 as part of the phase one Reopen Saskatchewan action plan. In light of the pandemic, golf courses in the province were instructed to operate under certain guidelines to encourage participation while upholding social distancing.
The government had worked with the National Allied Golf Association to construct the new rules designed to integrate with public health regulations.
At this time, a maximum of four players per group is allowed. Tee times must occur 12 minutes apart to circumvent overcrowding on the course. Flags must remain in place. Actions will be taken to prevent the ball from dropping in the hole, so players won’t touch either the pins or cups – this might include such procedures as levelling the cup, elevating the cup, or installing a touch-free ball removal mechanism.
Driving ranges and practise putting/chipping greens are allowed to open, but two-metre physical distances at minimum between players must be adhered to at all times. Range balls must be cleaned and disinfected before being exchanged between customers. Flags must remain in place and procedures must be taken to avert the ball from dropping into the hole. Preventive, public health friendly measures might consist of levelling the cup, elevating the cup, or installing a touch-free ball removal mechanism.
At this time, group lessons and tournaments are prohibited. However, league play and one-on-one lessons can transpire, but all the other public health conditions must be met.
With public health orders still in play, golf course restaurants are allowed to provide food and beverages via takeout, delivery or curbside pickup orders.
Situated at 102 Red Coat Trail, the nine-hole Assiniboia Regional Golf Course has grass greens, wide treed fairways and a modern licensed clubhouse with cart rentals.
