Senior Rebels take early series lead

Both Hodgeville and the Senior Rebels have opened up early 2-0 series leads in their respective best of seven matches in Notekeu League semi final action.

Both Hodgeville and the Senior Rebels have opened up early 2-0 series leads in their respective best of seven matches in Notekeu League semi final action. The Huskies defeated Coronach 6-4 and 3-0 while the Senior Rebs recorded 11-1 and 7-2 victories in the first two encounters with the Gravelbourg Hornets over the weekend.

At home on Friday, February 7, game one was never in doubt for the Rebs, as they opened up with 4-0 lead after the first and took a commanding 9-0 pounding into the third, finishing with an 11-1 score. With a full lineup for a change, the Senior Rebels were led by Kyle Hall with three goals and four assists. Dakota Helland also notched three. Braydon Delorme and Josh Bryant each added a pair, while Zach Evans added the other. It was valuable to get defenceman Sean Whelan back into the lineup, having been out since before Christmas due to an injury.

Travelling to Hornetville on Saturday night, the Senior Rebels jumped out to a 3-0 early advantage on tallies from Delorme, Kyle Hall and brother Bryce and they never looked back. It remained that after the first and took a 6-1 lead in the second before closing out the road win with a 7-2 victory in the third. Kevin Powell paced the boys with a hattrick on the night while Kyle Hall chipped in with another.

Game three will go back in Gravelbourg on Friday, February 14, due to previous ice commitments in Assiniboia and then Game four will return to Rebelville on Saturday night at 7:30 PM. The series will wrap with games in Assiniboia on Friday and Sunday and in Gravelbourg on Saturday (if necessary) during the following weekend.

Come on out and cheer the boys on in their quest to repeat as Notekeu champions this season – it is much appreciated. If both Hodgeville and the Rebels continue their winning ways, this will shape up to be a great thrilling final round to conclude the 2019-20 season.
