The Assiniboia Senior Rebels are off to a solid start in the 2018-19 season in this year’s Notekeu Hockey League, recording five straight wins, serving notice that they are planning a great challenge for this year’s league title again, following the first three weeks of action. Friday night, the Rebs travelled to Gravelbourg and skated their way to 4-1 road victory. Mitch Holick led the charge with four assists, while Kaleb Bell, Carson Cayer, Sean Whelan and Zach Evans notched the goals. Spence Bushell was stellar in goal, and the guys outhustled the Hornets to record a well-earned victory.

On Saturday night, in a first-place showdown at home against the Coronach Merchants, the Rebs scored one and a half minutes into the game on a scorcher by Colton Lethbridge. The boys never looked back as Braydon Delorme added three more goals, and Carson Cayer one, while Sean Whelan chipped in with four helpers, to pace the Rebs to a 5-0 victory. Bushy barred the door, recording his first shutout of the season. With 4-1 and 4-3 wins over Glentworth, along with 7-3 win over Rockglen, the Senior Rebels are presently sitting on top of the Notekeu with a 7W-0L record.

Last weekend, the team travelled to Hodgeville on Friday night to take on last year’s champs, and won with a score of 7-2. On Saturday night, the Rebels hosted the Huskies in Assiniboia, triumphing once more over Hodgeville with a final score of 6-3 for the home team.

The Rebs will reappear in Glentworth on December 1, then they’ll host the Coronach Merchants on December 7 at 8:30, before returning to Coronach on December 8. In the long range, the Senior Rebels will be playing against the Junior B Rebels on Saturday, December 22 in their annual Christmas match for mental health. Watch out for further details of more Senior Rebels games.
