The last two Saskatchewan junior women's champions were the day one leaders at the 2020 event in Swift Current on July 14 in Swift Current.

2019 winner Autumn Neiszner and 2018 champion Brooklin Fry shot opening rounds of 7-over, 79 at the Elmwood Golf Club in the 70th edition of the provincial championship.

Neiszner started strong shooting one-over par on the front before carding 44 on the back nine holes in blustery conditions on Tuesday.

Fry was the opposite shooting even par on holes 10-18 to climb into a tie going into Wednesday's second round.

Lauren Fox was third at plus-14.

Battleford's Colby Friedrich became the first round leader on the junior boy's side of the event.

The North Battleford Golf and Country Club player posted a stellar 2-under, 70 despite wind gusts of 50 kilometres an hour and periodic rain during the first of three rounds in the championship.

A logjam behind Friedrich, Saskatoon's Chase Pochylko and Josh Nagy, Regina's Hunter Kutcher and Kindersley's Cort Tunall had them tied for second at plus-3, 75.

Five other players were tied for sixth at plus-5. Round two of the 54-hole championship was planned for 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15.

Davin Karst from Assiniboia was at plus sixth in a tie with six other players on the Junior Men’s Leaderboard on July 14.

Just like in 2018, Shell Lake's Brooklin Fry and Saskatoon's Josh Nagy were declared the junior provincial golf champions two days later on July 16.

Fry was a 10-shot winner over reigning champion Autumn Neiszner of Regina on Thursday in Swift Current.

Saskatoon's Sarah Grieve finished in third place.

Fry was also the under-17 champion. Yorkton's Ella Kozak won the under-15 trophy.

Nagy improved each day of the three-day championship shooting 75, 71, 67 (213) for an 8-shot win over Jayden Dudas of Estevan on Thursday.

Alex Swinnerton of Saskatoon placed third and also won the under-17 championship. Saskatoon's Max Regier won the under-15 championship. Warman's Dane Giesbrecht earned the under-13 championship.

A total of 49 players took part in the event. Provincial events usually determine national team rosters, but Golf Canada has cancelled all national championships due to COVID-19.

Golf Saskatchewan will host the Men's Amateur, Men's Mid-Amateur and Women's Amateur Championships from July 21-24 in Warman.
