The Assiniboia Composite High School Senior Girls basketball team held its ninth annual Pink Day game on February 2.

This event is the culmination of several fundraisers in the fight against cancer. Over the years, the team has helped raise thousands to help others — initially organizations and more recently individuals — battle cancer. Additionally, the team started their own ‘pay it forward’ movement by purchasing pink uniforms for Fillmore’s 33 Central School. This has spread to at least 20 school basketball teams implementing their own pink game and associated fundraisers.  This year’s recipients of funds from the ACHS Pink Game (#WeThePink IX) is the Moose Jaw branch of the Community Oncology Program of Saskatchewan.

The funds raised will be used specifically to help purchase a new ultrasound machine for the Moose Jaw Hospital. This ultrasound machine is particularly adept at detecting breast cancer in patients.

The team has raised funds by creating their own “Straight Arm Challenge” through the Assiniboia Composite High School Facebook page. They have held a steak night and raffle at 121 steakhouse in Assiniboia. There was a silent online auction on the Assiniboia Composite High School Facebook page.

The Pink Day game event featured raffles, a live half-time ‘heads or tails” draw for Hillberg and Berk Jewelry, an Instant Pot and cooking class gift certificate, and an autographed Jarret Stoll Kings jersey.  There was also free giveaways for the big crowds.
