On August 6, Christians around the world celebrate one of the greatest events in Jesus' life, His Transfiguration.

This event is recorded in three of the Gospels and noted in II Peter. Jesus took Peter, James and John to the top of a high mountain, where He was filled and shined forth a divine light brighter than anything we would see on earth.

At this time, Moses and Elijah came and talked with Him about the coming events in Jerusalem.

Then a cloud of the divine presence of God the Father overshadowed them and a voice spoke from the cloud declaring Jesus to be God the Son.

The Transfiguration showed who Jesus is as God the Son in all His divine glory and as He is from all eternity.

God, the Father then declared from the bright cloud that Jesus is indeed the Son.

The apostles realized they were in the presence of God and were afraid.

It was clear that Jesus was much more than a teacher or prophet.

He was the divine Messiah.

Moses and Elijah were present with Jesus at this time, speaking about the coming Passion and Resurrection.

The prophets showed what was to come was in fulfillment of all the Law. The Prophets said all would be in accordance with the scriptures, even describing the way Jesus would carry out His role as Messiah and Saviour.

When the Father declared Jesus to be the Son, He commanded that we listen to Him seriously.

Jesus is much more than a good teacher.

He is our God and Saviour who brings our salvation and the true Kingdom of God. We need to listen seriously to all He teaches and affirm all He did so we may be saved.
