Swayze’s Concrete on 201, One Avenue East in Assiniboia’s industrial area on the north side of town burnt down on Thursday morning, January 30. Fire Chief Chuck Rust was asked for more details about the fire which had devasted this company branch in Assiniboia – Swayze’s Concrete had been a part of Assiniboia’s business community since 2005. However, Rust wasn’t able to provide more details on Friday, as the fire was still under investigation. Ryan Swayze came to visit the site on Monday, February 3. Swayze was unable to offer any particulars about the fire as well, although he’d mentioned the purpose of the visit to Assiniboia was to view the damages and talk with claims adjusters.

The owners, Ryan and Randy Swayze, were born and raised in southeastern Saskatchewan. The family-owned business had provided communities across southern Saskatchewan with ready-mixed concrete and washed aggregate for almost 60 years. The company bought out Larson’s Construction-Redi-Mix Concrete in Assiniboia in August 2005. Previously, the site was owned by North American Lumber for several years until 1982, when Larson’s took over the business.

Swayze’s has access to over 30 pits across southern Saskatchewan. In addition to the facility in Assiniboia, the business has five concrete batch plants and offices in Carlyle, Redvers, Radville, Carnduff, Wawota and Gravelbourg. The owners, who are based Weyburn, also manage an office in The Opportunity City.

Swayze’s water and sewer crew are also well known in Saskatchewan, especially in the southeast section of the province. In addition to their concrete enterprises, Swayze’s provides excavation equipment, safety equipment, applicable parts and trained personnel to repair or incorporate new installations.
