Every year for the past 36 years, the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame has held an induction ceremony to remember the contributors to the province’s baseball history.

This celebration of provincial baseball is usually held every third Saturday in August – the 35th Annual Induction Dinner happened on Saturday, August 17 in 2019.

However, COVID-19 induced a variety of closures and postponements for awards, ceremonies and sporting events in Saskatchewan and across Canada in 2020.

This year, the much anticipated 36th Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame Induction will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 instead of August.

The museum was established to venerate those who’ve impacted the province’s baseball history. The archives in Battleford’s baseball museum is comprised of collectables and mementos, including uniforms, photographs, baseball bats, baseballs, equipment, trophies and the David W. Shury Memorial Library.

John Cairns, staff reporter for the Battleford-News Optimist, visited the museum in April 2014 and was impressed with the institution’s exhaustive collection of historical items related to the province’s baseball history.

“There are a wealth of fascinating exhibits on display at the museum during its regular business hours,” Cairns wrote. “Among the ones that caught our eye was the exhibit paying tribute to Saskatchewan's major leaguers; signed bats and gloves; the tribute areas for the museum's founder Dave Shury and for its current president and CEO Jane Shury, a.k.a. "Mrs. Baseball," a selection of books in the David W. Shury Memorial Library, a section devoted to the Toronto Blue Jays, a section honouring female baseball players and memorabilia and pictures saluting Saskatchewan's baseball players and baseball heritage.”

Normally in pre-COVID times, the sports museum in Battleford was opened throughout the year from 9-4 p.m. with the exception of weekends and holidays.

In the second part of Phase 4, Re-Open Saskatchewan, libraries, museums, galleries, movie theatres and live theatres were allowed to reopen, although many of these attractions are taking measured approaches, where social distancing, sanitization and other aspects related to the flattening the curve are still respected.

Annual memberships for the museum are $25 from January 1 to December 31 and 25-year memberships are priced at $200.

The museum also accepts donations.
