The Mental Health and Wellness Team for Assiniboia and region have organized an event on November 5 to promote wellness in the community. The presentation at the Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre starting at 7 p.m. is open to everyone from 12 years and up, with ages 12-18 allowed in for free. Adults will be charged $5 at the door. There will also be door prizes at this occasion. Fresh Start is providing the refreshments for the evening.

Tickets for this engagement will be available at the door, or they can be purchased at Mom’s Florist and the POW Centre. Childcare will be available upon request.

Corliss Consulting from Prince Albert is planning to discuss general tips for positive mental health and wellness. Other topics of the night will include the importance of maintaining a healthful balance, finding gratitude, building better relationships, realizing goals and recognizing triggers affecting an individual’s mental health. Corliss Consulting is also arranging a conversation on reconstructing and fulfilling directions in one’s life.

The Mental Health and Wellness Team would like the community to know there’s a locally-based organization in Assiniboia who want to have discussions about mental health. The team also wants to assist others in managing the challenges affecting their personal wellbeing. Moreover, the team wants Assiniboians to realize there’s local resources available for mental health in the region.

Lately, there have been other initiatives to raise money for mental health in the Assiniboia community, such as Good Neighbour Day at Mom’s Florist, where roses were sold in dozens to raise money for this cause. Additional funding for local mental health programs has also been sourced from the Southern Rebels Jr. B Hockey Club, the Senior Rebels, the Spencer Mattson Memorial Fund, Assiniboia Safe Communities and other local organizations and businesses. The expectations for all the money raised for mental health is to have these funds placed into local wellness projects.

The Mental Health and Wellness Team first began as Maternal Mental Health, until those involved with the committee wanted to provide wellness opportunities for everyone of all ages, sexes and backgrounds for Assiniboia and its neighbouring districts.
