Local florist owner offered guidance for aspiring entrepreneurs

“The most important thing is that they should be is committed.

“The most important thing is that they should be is committed. They should also have a passion for what they’re doing,” said Erin Eberle, the owner of Mom’s Florist, when asked what people should know if they’re hoping to establish their own enterprises. “It’s a very difficult process to pursue, if their end goal is to own a business,” Eberle added.

Another important component a hopeful entrepreneur should possess before starting a business is to have a deep-seated perception of themselves. Self-awareness has an important role to play in the business world. Any potential business owner should know who they are and what they hope to accomplish. According to Eberle, successful entrepreneurs have to possess an inner understanding of themselves. “My vision in being a business owner was to always be able to provide a service where everyone knew they could call on me anytime. My door would always be open to help where I could,” Eberle said.

Before becoming the owner of Mom’s Florist, Eberle had studied for two years at the University of Regina. Afterwards, she earned a business certificate from Southeast College. Before Mom’s Florist became part of her life, she had been a co-owner of Steakhouse 121 with Tim and Penny Dlouhy – a business which started in 2008 then opened in 2009. She remained at Steakhouse 121 until September 2014. Shortly after leaving Steakhouse 121, she purchased Mom’s Florist in 2015.

Eberle had visited Mom’s Florist as a child. She was always in awe of the designs incorporated into the displays and arrangements inside the shop. “Floral, home and garden design concept were always a dream job for me. When the opportunity came up to pursue that dream, I had to jump on it.”

Of course, becoming a business owner means taking on additional responsibilities. “You have to wear a lot of hats,” Eberle explained. Aside from being a business owner, Eberle is also interested in helping to build upon, improve and maintain the community of Assiniboia. “Caring for your community is essential to being successful in a small town. I am on many boards, pursuing my involvement in multiple fundraising events to help the community flourish in as many ways as I can. It’s a commitment far past a 9-5 job, but doing something you love and being able to support your community at the same time makes for a wonderful lifestyle.”
