A cheque of $12,700 was presented to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan from a local association representing the Hayley and Cayden’s Mother’s Walk/Run when they met in the Hayley and Cayden Memorial Park on Friday, August 16.

This year, the funds raised through this year’s fundraising walk will be donated to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan. The Foundation was launched in January 2019 as the fundraising arm for the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. One hundred per cent of all funds donated will stay in Saskatchewan to support cancer patients in the province.

The committee has decided to commit their funds towards the purchase of two new CT Simulators in Saskatchewan, including one each at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre and the Saskatoon Cancer Centre. The Foundation is currently raising funds to replace and upgrade these particular pieces of equipment.

The CT Simulator is the first critical step for anyone receiving radiation treatment – and that can only be done at one of the two cancer centres in the province. By taking advantage of the new technologies, this will ensure radiation treatment is more effective efficient and exact.

Each CT Simulator costs $1.5 million. The Foundation will be reaching out in September to the people of Saskatchewan again to ask for more help to assist loved ones with a cancer diagnosis.

“I am always amazed, but not surprised, at the generosity and the tenacity of the people in this province. Time and again, people seem to find a way to turn grief and tragedy into something good – like the Wilcocks and the community of Assiniboia. I can’t say thank you enough,” Nora Yeates, the Chief Executive Office for the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan said after the cheque presentation in Hayley and Cayden Memorial Park on 4th Avenue West and 1st Street West.
