Two people were charged in separate incidents near the community of Deschambault Lake under the Saskatchewan Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act for bootlegging on April 29.

Information was received that a suspected local bootlegger was in the back in the community after leaving a few hours earlier. A traffic stop was done by officers – open alcohol was immediately located within the vehicle. A further search of the vehicle revealed several more bottles of alcoholic beverages were hidden inside.

A few hours after, additional information was received, revealing a different person was in the community – this individual was also believed to be transporting alcohol in the Deschambault Lake area.

RCMP officers conducted a search of the second vehicle during a traffic stop.

The driver of vehicle was currently on conditions not to possess any alcohol, but was caught transporting several bottles of distilled alcohol and beer.

The cargo loads of alcohol were seized from both vehicles. Charges were laid on both persons under Section 138 of the Saskatchewan Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act. One of the persons was also charged under the Traffic Safety Act for operating an unregistered vehicle.

Deschambault Lake is considered to be a dry First Nations reserve and is located in the north east of Saskatchewan, close to the Manitoba border.
