Go Out and Play

REGINA - Kids in Assiniboia will soon have a new spot to play in the local aquatic centre. Residents and supporters logged an impressive 435,700 minutes of physical activity during the Saskatchewan Blue Cross Go Out & Play Challenge to win the grand prize. The town will put the money toward a climbing wall.

"Congratulations to Assiniboia's organizers and residents. They had a strong showing throughout the challenge with a lot of fun events to keep everyone moving," says Marnie Forsberg, Manager, Saskatchewan in motion. "Small towns who rally their residents have always done well in the challenge and this year is no exception."

For the second year in a row, Shields was runner up with nearly 415,500 minutes logged. The community will put its $5,000 prize toward a multi-sport court. People supporting 33 communities moved more than 3.4 million minutes March 1-10 to support projects that get kids out to play.

In addition to the winners, eight communities logged more than 100,000 minutes during the challenge:
Biggar
Churchbridge
Delisle
Norquay
Rosewood Community Association (Saskatoon)
Saltcoats
Watrous
Wynyard
"The challenge has always brought out a lot of community spirit and pride and we saw that in spades this year," says Tanya Murphy, Community Relations Coordinator for Saskatchewan Blue Cross. "Saskatchewan Blue Cross is excited to have a part in generating this enthusiasm for something as important as outdoor play."
