The Assiniboia Arts Council will reward a student from Assiniboia and region by offering them a $200 bursary to be used towards registration expenses at an accredited school or fine arts camp of their choice – note that these learning opportunities can be online.

Students from Grade 7-12 who are involved in music, visual arts, photography, film making or writing are eligible for the award. Send a letter of application stating the area of interest in the arts and the reasons for attending the summer school camp. Mail the applications to the Assiniboia & District Arts Council at Box 1596 SK, S0H 0B0.

Applicants should include their full names, addresses, phone numbers, ages and grades along with brochures and copies of registration forms to the camps/schools. Note the deadline to apply for this award is June 6. For more information, email the council at assiniboia.artscouncil@sasktel.net.

Bunches and Bouquets of Joy, which support arts in the community, can still be picked up or delivered. Make sure to have June flowers to brighten the home. Call Erin Eberle at Mom’s Florist to determine when the flowers can be picked up or delivered. If anyone missed picking up their flowers from another month, Erin will still honour them.

The Shurniak Art Gallery is still closed – meaning the OSAC Arts on the Move Exhibition scheduled for June has been postponed. Moreover, the 2020 Artists Retreat originally booked for July is cancelled, disappointing several participants who were planning to attend.

The 2020 Mistletoe Art & Craft Sale in November will no longer go ahead as planned. Although this event is the Assiniboia Art Council’s main fundraiser, the health and safety of the exhibitors and guests had to be considered until the situation with COVID-19 is fully resolved.

The Assiniboia Arts Council are still moving forwards despite the pandemic. The council are thrilled to announce their 2021 season sponsors: Southland Coop, Stark & Marsh, Able II Print and the Assiniboia Times.
