Initially from Cold Lake Alberta, Nash Liagridonis has been running Nash’s Restaurant and Lounge for more than 10 years. He’d been living in Okotoks from 2002-2008 and decided to become a business owner in Assiniboia. “We ended up coming to Assiniboia in 2009 because this opportunity came,” Liagridonis recounted. Liagridonis’ move to Assiniboia wasn’t too difficult, as the restaurant owner had roots in southern Saskatchewan, since his mother originated from Rockglen, giving him a familiarity with the south central part of the province.
His restaurant on 401A First Avenue in Assiniboia specializes in Greek dishes, but comfort foods such as pizza, steaks and wings are also on the menu. So, the food at Nash’s could be more accurately described as a multi-cuisine affair. “Our menu is Canadian food and Greek fusion,” Liagridonis explained.
Additionally, Nash’s has an extended option of drinks on the menu. Also, the restaurant runs a delivery and take out service. Nash’s keeps reservations as well. In sum, Nash’s is a unique venue in Assiniboia, because this is a modern family restaurant with a pub-like atmosphere. Liagridonis defined his restaurant as a social house with a great selection of food and drinks. “We’ve got a central bar with craft beer on tap. The sports games are on. Families come out. We’ve got a little bit for everybody.”
Liagridonis instituted several transformations into his restaurant during the spring of 2017 with new furniture, fixtures, flooring and a central bar. “The thing is, you’ve always got to evolve. You’re always looking to please people and build relationships with them and the community.”
Another modification Liagridonis brought to his restaurant were nights featuring live music on either Fridays or Saturdays. Previously, bands focussing on country rock sounds such as Rustic had played gigs at Nash’s. Nash’s has also introduced open mic nights from time-to-time and held special evenings dedicated to sporting events, like the 2017 UFC match between Bisping and St. Pierre in 2017.
