The Cross Canada Fiddle Revue was held at the Shurniak Art Gallery in Assiniboia on January 31.

The event featured great music and energy, engaging stories and a low-key mood. The entertainers were Champion Canadian fiddlers Gordon Stobbe (Nova Scotia), JJ Guy (Sask.), and Troy MacGillivray (Nova Scotia).

They all love traditional fiddle music, plus compose their own tunes in the Celtic roots style. Gordon and JJ are well known as the Twin Fiddles, and have several CD’s out in that name. Troy MacGillivray is also an accomplished Celtic pianist and renowned step dancer.

They were joined by Daniel Koulack (Winnipeg) on string bass and banjo, and Cathy Sproule (Saskatoon) on piano. Cathy has a local connection, as she grew up in Lafleche.

All five musicians are involved in fiddle workshops and camps, mentoring youth, and the promotion of values and traditions handed down through the generations.
