Dom Amero first became aware of his musical talents when the Winnipegger as a walk-in had won a lead role in a production of Oklahoma at 14 years of age. The three-time JUNO Award nominee has earned a signficant degree of attention from audience members and critics alike after releasing the album Evolution on August 24 in 2018. Amero’s appearing at the Conexus Auditorium in the Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre on February 28, with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The former hardwood installer has released seven albums in total. Evolution is considered his most successful album to date, giving Amero a substantial amount of status in the genre of mainstream country music.

But Amero’s music isn’t so easy to pigeonhole into the country slot, because critics have also variously referred to his tunes as harmonic, smooth and uplifting with crooning vocals showcasing blues and jazz-flavoured tones.

A review of Amero’s album by Front Porch said Evolution was filled with songs speaking of everyday triumphs and struggles. The third track on the album, Addicted, was described by the reviewer as a standout brilliant single with a bluesy character, accentuating Amero’s lilting voice which is somehow capable of transporting the listener into a smoke-filled bar. Amero’s distinguished rendition of Blue Rodeo’s Try is perhaps the most well-known song to be featured on Evolution.

The Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC) in conjunction with member councils, including the Assiniboia Arts Council, are presenting Don Amero in concert in an assortment of communities in the province as part of the Stars for Saskatchewan series. The concert series starts at the Kamsack Playhouse Theatre on February 21 and ends with a Leap Year engagement at the Bengough Community Centre on February 29.
