During this somewhat grey time, when social distancing has become the watchword phrase of the day, Stephanie VanDeSype – Assiniboia’s Recreation and Community Wellness Manager – has devised a fascinating concept to keep people engaged with one another from afar in this time of crisis.
Assiniboia Has Talent! is a social media event running from March 30 to April 10. Talented people in the region are invited to post videos of themselves lip synching, dancing, performing baking demos, woodworking, or even riding a hoverboard. The potential categories in this contest are boundless. The participants are invited to be imaginative, original and entertaining in all the videos they post on Facebook and Instagram in this daily competition.
“There will be a prize of the day for the talent contestants,” VanDeSype promised.
With so much negativity in the world as several nations address the pandemic, Assiniboia Has Talent! is a friendly and entertaining diversion for everyone in the community to get involved with.
“I dreamt Assiniboia has talent up myself, I'm trying to find ways to get the community moving, be creative and have some laughs along the way. This is why I'm doing a morning video on my Facebook page as well. I’m just trying to make people smile,” VanDeSype said.
With a slight nod to the popular America’s Got Talent series, where contestants of all ages audition their talents in the televised contest, Assiniboia Has Talent! is certain to appeal to the creative and ingenious members of this community.
“Anyone who submits a photo or video that day will be entered in to a random draw,” VanDeSype continued. “We are not going to judge any of the entries, as we are simply encouraging people to have some fun and provide some entertainment along the way.”
