Last weekend in Assiniboia, much to the delight of its many visitors, the Assiniboia and District Arts Council presented its third annual ‘Pop-Up Art Show and Sale’. The event was held at the old Orville Ottenbreit photography studio on Main Street, and featured the work of fourteen local artists. The first show - three years ago - featured only seven artists.

According to Alison Lewis, District Arts Council president, this year’s event was truly a success. “The number of visitors to the show, and the number of featured artists keeps growing with each passing year”, added Lewis. “It’s truly exciting to see this event grow in this way. Each year, more and more artists ask to be included, and we’re really happy about that”.

Lewis explained that the event has no permanent location, so it ‘pops up’ when a space becomes available. “Originally, this event was created to showcase local artists and provide another option, venue, and opportunity for local artists to display and sell their work”.

Artists, at this show, utilized a number of different mediums for their work. Some of the mediums employed were acrylics, oils, water colours, pen and ink, pottery, quilting, painting on silk, as well as digital painting on canvas.

“We are very happy with the community support and response we have received thus far for this event”, said Lewis. “We look forward, with great anticipation, to the future. We hope this event will continue to grow in size and popularity”.
