HUMBOLDT — Humboldt’s mayor is hailing the province’s reopening plan as great news.

“I am optimistic that it will kick start our local economy by giving residents the opportunity to support the businesses that have been struggling while closed,” Rob Muench said. “This is also proof that we are doing the right things at existing open businesses."

The mayor said the city’s citizens can’t become complacent and asked them to continue to respect physical distancing.

“If you are a business that is permitted to reopen your doors, please make sure you have implemented physical distancing procedures for your customers and have educated your staff,” he said. “You will certainly gain the confidence of your customers by making them feel safe when they visit.”

The city has outlined how it plans to reopen its facilities.

City Hall will reopen to the public on Monday, May 4 with restrictions. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

There must only be one patron inside the reception area at a time, hands must be sanitized at the sanitization station at the entrance prior to entering the reception area, people must remain behind the reception glass partition at all times and patrons must enter through the front doors and exit through the north doors.

Those that are feeling sick or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms are asked to not enter City Hall.

Bills can still be paid through online banking, through the mail, or by using the drop off slot located in front of City Hall. Civic staff can still be contacted using telephone.

As for other civic facilities, the Fitness Centre can be reopened during Phase III of the five-phase reopening plan, while the Elgar Petersen Arena, Curling Rink and Aquatic Centre, the Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery, and play structures will be reopened in Phase IV. The province has not yet set a date for when those phases will take place.
