Residential waste collection service in Assiniboia is about to change. That simply means your garbage collection will no longer be done in the manner you are accustomed to. Implementation of this new ‘plan’ is set to take effect on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

Here’s how this will all unfold: each household in Assiniboia will receive yet another 95 gallon bin, the same size as your existing ‘blue’ bin currently in use for recycling. This new bin will be for your garbage only. Colour of this new bin, which will hold approximately 6 bags of ‘waste’, has yet to be determined by the town. From now on, ONLY waste in this new bin will be picked up. Your new bin will be delivered to your home sometime in the near future with an information packet which will explain the new plan and the new collection schedule.

Bottom line:As of March 27, ‘garbage collection’ will no longer be weekly, but bi-monthly - meaning, every two weeks. ‘Pick-up days’ will now be on Wednesdays - for both recycling and garbage containers, but please note: change from the current Monday recycling pick-up will not begin until after your new garbage bin has been delivered to your home. For purposes of waste and recycling ‘collection’, the town of Assiniboia will be divided into two ‘sectors’. Hence, every Wednesday - from March 27 on - either your recycling or garbage bin ‘contents’ will be collected. You will be expected to know which bin to move to curbside on that day. Curbside garbage collection will be provided by Loraas Disposal, who also collects the town’s recycling materials.

Town of Assiniboia officials want you to know that - for the time being, at least - there will be no charge for your garbage collection. That is the only thing that has not changed.

Town officials also want you to know that commercial waste collection services are currently under review by town council.
