The Assiniboia Apostolic Church is organizing a World Day of Prayer event on March 6, 2020 at their church on 200-Fourth Avenue East, beginning at 1:30 p.m. This year, prayers will be directed to the churches in the southern African country of Zimbabwe.

Women, men and children of all ages are called to rise, take their mats and join together on this day of prayer. Women of Zimbabwe have prepared this years’ service and they encourage all Christians to reflect on the difficulties and unrest that have plagued their country over the years. They will share the challenges they have met and the hopes they have for the future. They will also encourage believers to take their mats and walk with them, as they continue a journey which is often turbulent towards full reconciliation.

World Day of Prayer is an international, inter-church organization which enables Christians to hear the thoughts of women from all parts of the world, including their hopes, concerns and prayers. The preparations during this day are vast. An international committee is based in New York and there are national committees based in each country. Regional conferences are meeting to consider how to conduct this international service, then local groups will congregate to discuss the plans as they are being laid out. Finally, in churches across the globe on Friday, March 6, people will gather to celebrate the service prepared by the women of Zimbabwe.

World Day of Prayer is celebrated in over 170 countries. The day is set to begin in Samoa (formerly Western Samoa) and then will travel throughout the world with prayers in native languages in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas, before finishing in American Samoa in the South Pacific more than 36 hours later.
