Assiniboia football season ends

Assiniboia’s peewee and high school Rockets football teams both ended their seasons on October 20 during road games. Visiting in Weyburn, the Assiniboia pee wee Rockets were defeated 25 to 23 by the pee wee Par Contracting Ravens who secured a spot in the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association league championship.
The Rockets kept the game close and were just shy of advancing. Assiniboia’s coaches were very proud of the team’s efforts. The Ravens move on to the League Championship on October 26.
Assiniboia Composite High School’s Rockets football ended the season with a 71 to 64 loss to Wynyard on October 21. The Rockets advanced through two playoff rounds before falling to Wynyard.
The Rockets fielded many new young players this year after the departure of a few senior experienced players after graduation in June. The Rockets’ coaches said the team had been on a learning curve as the young players gain experience.
Parents and coaches said that they are very proud of the team. The players improved with each game. The coaching staff helped the team build football abilities as well as real life skills such as leadership and team-building.
The Rockets played in the 2A 6-man C3 division of the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association. This season, Assiniboia was in a group with Watrous, Wynyard, Preeceville, Davidson and Lanigan.
