Mossbank Mayor Gregg Nagel cut the ribbon as the town’s swimming pool opened after renovations on July 1. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place as part of the Canada Day celebrations in Mossbank. The town’s public swimming pool had approached the end of its lifespan. Because the pool is an important recreation facility in Mossbank, the community then embarked on a long journey to gather sufficient funds for upgrades.
“It is as much as an integral part in summer as the rink is in the winter,” the Mossbank mayor commented about the significance of the pool to the community.
Last year, the pool fundraising got a boost when Mossbank won CHAB radio’s Great 8 contest on September 1. They received a $5,000 donation for their community pool project. This amount, together with town reserves and generous donations from local businesses and individuals has raised upwards of $250,000 for the project.
Nagel added that the community’s two major fundraising events, the annual auction and the Dare to Dream Lottery, both donated funds to the pool project. “This means that we won’t have to borrow as much as a town.”
The renovations started in May, with plenty of time left over for swimmers to enjoy the pool in July and August.
Now, the pool will be hosting a dive clinic presented by Dive Sask with all levels of experience invited to participate. The clinics run on July 28, August 9 and August 21 from 9 a.m. to noon. The clinic agenda includes teaching participants how to dive, jump, flip and do somersaults. Those interested need to call the Town Office to register and book a spot. A NCCP certified diving coach from the Regina Diving Club will instruct the clinic.
The Mossbank swimming pool is open for public swimming seven day a week from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Aquasize is held Monday to Friday from noon to 1 p.m. Aquatots goes Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. Lane swimming is open from Monday to Friday from noon to 1 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. Teen swimming is scheduled for Wednesdays from 9 to 10 p.m.
Mossbank pool also offers nine different types of swimming lessons: parent and tot, pre-school, Swim Kids, Rookie, Ranger, Star Patrol, bronze star, bronze medallion, and bronze cross.
