Sharing and cooperation at Assiniboia artist retreat

Creative juices flowed at the Assiniboia Artist Retreat from July 17 to 22 at the Curling Rink in Assiniboia. The event brought together 23 artists of all levels from across Saskatchewan and neighbouring provinces who worked in a variety of media including fiber art, oil, acrylic, water colour, ink, sculpting and photographic art.
The retreat was hosted by the Assiniboia and District Arts Council and the Shurniak Art Gallery and was partially funded by Community Initiatives. This was the third year for the retreat.
This event aimed to provide the artists with time and a creative space to work. It also gave them an opportunity to mingle with other artists to share ideas, techniques and feedback. “It was a great week of sharing and working together,” artist Beth Stobbs commented.
Some free public events were organized as a way to involve the community and promote art. The Shurniak Art Gallery hosted the first event, a “meet the artists” reception, on July 17. As part of the retreat, the gallery displayed one work by each artist in a group exhibit under the theme “connection” that ran June 24 to July 22.
