Rockglen dinner theatre filled the Rockglen high school with fine dining and laughter on April 1. The Rockglen community council board organized the dinner and the Rockglen community theatre presented the play “Nana’s Naughty Knickers”.
It was an amazing event with 167 tickets sold. The first 100 tickets sold out in an hour. The theater play was preceded by a turkey dinner prepared and served by the Rockglen School Community Council. The dinner included turkey, cranberries, salad, dressing, and various cheese cake desserts. Some of the motifs from the play were even included in the meal like the saucy lips decorations. The majority of the play’s proceeds this year will go towards the Fine Arts programs at the Rockglen School.
The council board members also decorated the gym for the play. Students from the school helped to set up and take down the tables and chairs. The actors also assisted by dedicating hours of time to rehearsals and helping with setting up and taking down the set.
The audience enjoyed the amazing play starting to laugh soon after the show started and not stopping until it ended. For the performance, the theatre selected a more risqué topic than usual. The play included seven cast members and some played more than one part. There were four high school students involved in the theatre for their second year.
Cast members included Margaret McKee, Brock McGonigal, Anne Stewart, Kirkland Borgerson, Jacey Jacobs, Wayne Borgerson and Jordan Jacobs. McKee and Stewart are longtime members of the theatre and Borgerson also brought previous acting experience to the production. The actors took on roles they normally would not, stretching their acting experience and adding to the fun of the show.
For example, Borgerson gave a hilarious performance for one of the female roles. “It was amazing to see the growth and change in some of our actors, and also very gratifying,” said Liz Roberts, one of the organizers.
The play was very technically demanding and the production members showed real leadership to get it off the ground. The theatre troupe had to overcome many personal and technical obstacles to bring this year’s production into being. The performance was dedicated to the cast and production members affected by illness. Meanwhile, other cast members were commended for stepping in to take over the roles and production.
