Gravelbourg Community Music Centre capped its music program season with its first annual “4 O’clock Rock” after-school teen music program recital and grad fundraiser at The Renaissance Gaiety Theatre in Gravelbourg on May 5.
The evening demonstrated the musical growth of the École Gravelbourg students over the course of the program. As part of the “4 O’clock Rock” music program, a group of students from Grade 7 and up choose song selections and work under the guidance of three local musicians and instructors from the GCMC, Jobi Nichol, Chad Tremblett and Stephan Mihajlovich. Some students learned to play a new instrument while they collaborated with fellow group members to perform and compose pieces, explained Nichol, program director for the Gravelbourg Community Music Centre. The three instructors commended the students for the tremendous job of learning instruments for the first time.
The evening ended with a draw for the penny parade and raffle. The proceeds from the admission went to the École Gravelbourg School Grad Committee, and the penny parade and raffle proceeds went to support the GCMC community programs.
Gravelbourg Community Music Center is a not-for-profit group of music professionals, parents, and community members. It’s run by a board, but is linked into a strong and vibrant network of partnerships with other organizations collaborating to provide programming for all ages and abilities. The centre aims to create a musical environment to share knowledge and experience where children can play and learn, teenagers have a place to feel accepted and heard, individuals with special needs are given an opportunity to expand their abilities, seniors and younger generations can interact and connect, and people can ultimately come together.
