The JustinSane Barbicar Club of Mossbank made a donation to Assiniboia’s new rink project on August 1.
Gwen Kowalski from the Barbicar Club made the presentation of the $1,000 donation to Curtis Nelson, who is president of the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association which is heading up the rink project.
The JustinSane Barbicar Club of Mossbank is a not-for-profit club that raises money in memory of Justin Kowalski who died tragically in a car accident.
The club has been raising funds for Mossbank’s Recreation Department that have gone to renovating the Mossbank swimming pool.
With the swimming pool project complete, the JustinSane club looked to donate to other projects. Since Justin Kowalski played hockey in Assiniboia for the Chiefs and the Stingers, they decided to assist the new rink project.
The JustinSane Barbicar club holds the Barbicar races annually as well as a show and shine for classic cars.
Over the three years they have been running the show and shine they have raised $23,000, stated Kowalski. The show and shine took place in Mossbank on July 2.
This year’s JustinSane BarbiCar Races in May raised over $3,000. Raising the money and helping the community in Justin’s memory has been healing for the family, Kowalski added.
Nelson said the CIA has collected 4.2 million in donations and committed funds. The new arena will be constructed in the lot across from the Prince of Wales Centre.
