The Paisley Teacup Studio and Market will be holding its grand opening on November 17-18. Assiniboia’s latest business is owned and operated by Janielle Simard. She opened the store and studio back in mid-September.
Now that the community has had an opportunity to become acquainted with the new store, the Paisley Teacup will be holding a grand opening to celebrate. The opening will include door prizes and giveaway samples of Country Chic Paint.
The Paisley Teacup represents a unique business for the south Saskatchewan community. It offers retail items, and it also serves as a creative community space for workshops. Already for the past month, Simard has run a series of workshops that she calls furniture painting 101. At the workshops, Simard guides the participants in furniture painting techniques such as the preparation of the wood, distressing techniques, painting options and finishing.
She has also offered a sign workshop where she assists participants with creative techniques using different products, glazes, and stencilling, among others. Simard leaves it up to the creativity of the individual and she helps them to achieve the desired effect.
The workshops have received a very positive response and all of the spaces have filled up quickly. Upcoming workshops include sign workshops on November 22 and 29 and a mom and me workshop on November 25. Future studio events will be posted to the Teacup’s Facebook page.
The Paisley Teacup also retails a number of unique items including furniture paint. She carries a number of products for furniture refinishing and painting such as the Canadian-made Country Chic containing environmentally friendly products like beeswax and natural oils, decorative handles and knobs for drawers and doors.
Simard also offers women’s accessories, stationary items, cards, jewelry lines, books, and gift items. She has just received a new shipment of Canadian designed and made Foxy ear rings. She carries the popular Green’s Your Colour water bottles in various shades as well as Good Works Make a Difference bracelets with the proceeds going to assist children in Africa.
Simard has been around furniture refinishing most of her life. “It has been my norm,” she said. Her mother has been refinishing furniture for decades. Simard and her mother are able to take outdated furniture items and antiques and update them with modern colour schemes and finishing. “I’m all about reuse, recycle and refresh,” Simard commented. Customers can find many refinished furniture pieces in the shop by Simard or her mother.
The Paisley Teacup is both a creative outlet as well as a dream for Simard who has always hoped to open her own business after completing her business education.
One of the best parts of her day, says Simard, is interacting with her customers. “I love people coming in and telling me about their projects when they are finished,” she added.
The Paisley Teacup Studio and Market is located at 124 Centre Street in Assiniboia. To keep up with studio events, the community can follow the shop on Facebook.
