Despite the recent approval of the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain and Enbridge Line 3 replacement projects, Energy East remains critical to mitigating the need for Quebec and the Maritime provinces to import foreign oil. These provinces imported $17 billion in foreign oil in 2015. Western Canadian crude oil supply is currently 3.98 million barrels per day. It will increase by 37% by 2030. Energy East aids Canada’s energy sovereignty by ensuring that Canadian oil supplies the country’s eastern provinces instead of importing from other countries.
